Consultations for Therapists
Cultural Competency for Therapists Seeking to Learn More about Queer and Trans Experiences
You're a good therapist. But maybe you've got a client navigating gender transition and you're realizing that you don't have the lived experience or training to do this justice.
Or you're working with someone on the bipolar spectrum and the medical model feels like it's failing both of you.
I can collaborate with you to further your understanding
I work with therapists to provide guidance and expertise on populations and issues that I’ve specialized in for over a decade.
-
LGBTQ++ communities, particularly trans and gender-expansive folks
Parenting, particularly queer and trans parents and families
Spiritual emergence
Jewish identity and complexities in relationship to Gaza/Israel/Palestine
-
Queer paths to parenthood and fertility challenges
Complex family systems that don't fit the nuclear model
Chosen families and intentional communities
-
Mental health approached from a strengths-based/spiritual lens
CPTSD and complex trauma in marginalized communities
-
Integrating liberatory, anti-oppressive frameworks into practice (without it feeling performative or surface-level)
Commitment to social justice– I commit to ongoing reflection and learning about anti-racism and anti-racist practices. I have a commitment to examining classism within therapy making therapy as accessible as possible by accepting Alameda Alliance Medi-Cal. I’ve been examining ableism and showing up in allyship to people with disabilities throughout my life and career.
I draw from the wisdom of a disability justice framework in my work with those with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or identifying as neurodivergent. Social justice systems lens (Person-In-Environment theory)
Strengths based, destigmatizing , non-pathologizing approaches (IDHA training)
Harm reduction. I view substance use and addictions as one possible trauma response. I trust my clients to be self aware around what changes, if any they would like to make to their behaviors regarding substances or other behaviors. We partner together to come up with strategies to manage the stresses of trauma and oppression.
How We Work Together
My approach to consultation is the same as my approach to therapy: direct, collaborative, and rooted in seeing people in context.
I'm not here to tell you what to do—I'm here to think alongside you, offer perspective from my training and lived experience, and help you figure out how to show up for your clients in a way that feels authentic and effective.
We can work together on specific cases, dive into skill-building around particular modalities, or explore how to bring more of a social justice lens into your practice.
Logistics
I typically take on supervisees on a case-by-case basis (individuals or dyads/triads).
